Before you object and say “my grandma/Aunt Mildred/unstylish cousin wears these,” hear me out. Don’t you kind of hate it when you’re wearing shoes in the summer and your feet get really nasty and sweaty? Enter the sheer nylons you probably only have from some formal event or for interviews (if you have them at all).
I’d never considered wearing them as kneesocks (too old-Asian-lady for me) until I saw Karlie Kloss doing it so perfectly in the fall Pringle ads. She makes them look completely elegant and not at all awkward. If you’re not convinced by my take on it, you should be by her casual way of wearing them.
Want to try it yourself? A few tips, If I may:
1) No open toed shoes. Period. I know socks/tights with sandals is now pretty much accepted nowadays, but sheer nylons worn this way WILL make you look like an old lady instead of the stylish Chictopians I know you are. I might make an exception for peep-toes though.
2) Contrast the color. Don’t get your stockings in the exact same shade as your skin tone. That kind of defeats the purpose and makes you have awkward-looking skin from afar. Try going at least a little darker or lighter than your skin tone for a subtle difference.
3) Slouch! An easy way to achieve Karlie’ slouchy look is to buy a pair of nylons, cut the legs off, and scrunch them to your knees. I only had knee-high nylons that my mom gave me (and which I’d never worn up until now), but I think a bit of slouch would have looked even better.
That’s it, Uglies! A chic way to keep your feet sweat free in the summertime heat. Don’t forget to thank your granny for this style idea— just don’t wear your nylons in the same way as she does. :)
