Nail polish has become a rather hot-button topic in the fashion world of late, which is good news for all of us nail polish fanatics in the Chictopia office.
With the help of the runways, nail polish has become much chicer in the past few seasons. Gone are those awkward shimmery metallic shades that always seem impossible to apply. Instead, say hello to lovely simple crème finishes (not a sparkly particle in sight!), which are easy to apply and are somehow both subtle and bold at the same time.
From bright neons to barely-there nudes, here are some of the shades we’ll be sporting on our tips and toes this season.
Brights- Brights are always a must have for scorching summers, but these are some of our faves.
Cover me in Petals – This looks like your run-of-the-mill red-orange nail polish, but boy does this shade pop on your fingers! The super-bright color is really more of a neon coral than a typical red-orange. It’s the color I’m wearing in the photo.
Rare- I have a special place in my heart (and retinas) for all things neon yellow, but this one beats them all. For one, it’s actually opaque! It only takes 2-3 coats of paint while the other neon yellows I’ve tried often never get opaque (unless layered over white or yellow). A definite rarity!
No Room for the Blues – Both Nancy and I own this color, and it’s the perfect wonderful shade of bright blue crème. A good goes-with-anything fallback.
Pastels-I’m all about pastels right now, and nail polish is no exception. So here my picks of pastel polish in all colors, for pastel skittles fingers, or one color for (almost) every day of the week.
Office- A perfect shade of mint green for you Chanel Jade fanatics. The formula is pretty good, and you can easily pick one up since you were probably going to stock up on basics at AA anyways.
Lilacism- Essie does some of the best light shades and pastels, and this one is no exception. A perfect shade of lavender that applies super-smooth.
For Audrey- There’s no doubt that many of you, like me, are huge Audrey Hepburn fans. So if you like Tiffany’s as much as Holly Golightly, then show it on your nails! This shade was created to match the iconic shade used on Tiffany’s boxes.
Lemon Fizz – A lovely shade of pastel yellow. It’s perfect as a practically-neutral shade for summer and will add a nice and subtle bit of color.
Smitten – This looks like the perfect shade of soft pink for spring. Not too girly, and not too bright. Plus, Rescue Beauty Lounge has one of the best formulas: smooth and long-lasting
Peachy Keen This apricot color will serve as another near-neutral for your hands while still being completely unexpected, which isn’t easy for a pastel to do!
Neutrals – Though they’re nothing exciting, these shades are the break you need from having a jarring color on your fingers. Opaque shades will give you a polished and clean look, while the sheers are great for those of you who prefer to look au naturel.
Plie-A solid neutral with the slightest hint of pink. This is one I’ll likely be picking up this summer.
Tickle My France-y- A favorite opaque of mine. This one looks so professional and mature, and so subtly elegant.
Prima Ballerina- This shade is a semi-sheer that is perfect for natural-looking tips and toes. Perfect for days at the beach.
