One of the chicest people in Chictopia is Joanna Ladrido. She’s one of the Style Icons in Chictopia with a whopping 1,746 fans (and counting) to boast! With her amazing style, trendy clothes and a boutique (Glitterati) of her own, it’s not a surprise that she gets a ton of comments and votes in her Chic Blog. In fact, NYMag.com’s the Cut recognized her distinct style (Photo 2) at their Street Comber feature. Check out our latest interview with the budding Fashionista.
1. When did you first join Chictopia? You already have a lot of followers and fans, not to mention chic points. We’re curious to know how long it took you to gain such popularity.
Joanna: I joined Chictopia after reading about the online community for fashionphiles in Teen Vogue back in August 2008. I always wanted a fashion blog but never knew how to go about it and this seemed like a great way to blog and connect with people who like myself, love fashion.
2. Where do you get inspiration from your outfits. We read in your recent post that you were inspired by a designer collection, how about your other outfits?
Joanna: I am inspired by anything-seriously. Fashion trends from the runway, street style, art… anything around me, really. I am very much into incorporating music into my outfits though. I let my ipod decide for me on days I can’t by putting it on shuffle and dressing according to whichever song plays first. it’s a fun way to get inspired!
3. We can’t help but notice the beautiful background in each of your photos. Where do you take them? Do you choose your backgrounds according to your outfits?
Joanna: I used to always just use one background but I kind of got tired of it and play with different ones now. I mainly take photos around my house, village or wherever place I go to. I choose them based on how well they can highlight the outfit I am wearing. It’s so important especially for the overall effect of the look.
4. What’s your favorite item at the moment? Do you have any tips on how to style it?
Joanna: I have two -
First would be studs. I am a rocker chick a heart and I always love studs as they make an outfit standout and edged out with instant fierceness and glam factor. When I do wear them, I make sure they accent rather than drown out my outfit. I try not to go overboard when wearing them and mix and match with basic pieces.
Second, I love tutus. I am quite known for those, really but I cannot get enough of full girly bouncy skirts that make me feel like a princess. I used to dance ballet which is why it was quite natural for me to love them. I just think they are quite wearable to anything since they can be dressed up with a corset or bustier for a fancy party or dressed down for a casual day with say a simple tank top and sneakers.
